This is sort of what I look like. (Yes I am holding my digital camera at arm's length and trying to look nonchalant and vaguely pleasant or at least not terminally pissed off. Aren't my new glasses cool? They are the most expensive article of clothing I have ever bought, by about a $400 margin. They were supposed to attract the nerd babes by the hundreds. It didn't work. Surprised? Neither am I.)

I'm a great devotee of Tibetan arts and culture. When I can dredge up some spare time and calm my overcaffeinated nerves I like to engage in Sino-Tibetan acrylic painting. (Yeah, acrylics are not real traditional but a lot easier and cheaper to use than opaque watercolor.)
On the subject of arts, I play the bassoon, saxophone (very badly since I can't read treble clef any more), and didjeridu (a.k.a. yidaki). I have had the privilege of playing oh-tsuzumi (a weird drum) in the University of Michigan Japanese Music Ensemble a number of (twelve??) years ago. I very much enjoy minimalist ambient music; Steve Roach and VidnaObmana are by a significant margin my favorites in that category. Yet more than anything I'm a movie soundtrack nut: the Gladiator soundtrack is one of the finest musical opera ever written; most anything by Danny Elfman or James Horner rates high also. I dislike country music except for Johnny Cash, who always has been and always will be a musical genius.
